Gluten Free Tartare Sauce

Homemade Tartare Sauce
This really couldn't be any easier and is the reason for my new addiction to capers. Perfect to serve up with gluten free fish and chips this will take you less than five minutes to make from start to finish.

To make a small pot of Tartare Sauce as shown.

Ingredients:

Heaped teaspoon Capers
2 slices of Pickled Gherkin
2 heaped tablespoons Mayonnaise
Pinch of salt
Generous squeeze of Lemon Juice

Directions:
  • Roughly chop the capers and gherkin into small pieces
  • Put into a small bowl
capers pickled gherkin
Mmmmm Capers and Pickled Gherkin
  • Add the mayo, salt, lemon juice and mix
As far as recipes go, it doesn't get more basic than that! I always wanted Free From G to have recipes that were relatively quick but definitely easy and that anyone can make, I think I've succeeded! For me, I see no point in making my own mayonnaise for this, if you can use pre-made gluten free ingredients to cut corners then I'm all for it!

I had to do quite a bit of research into the capers and gherkins to make sure the ones I chose were gluten free. You have to watch brines and pickle vinegars because they might include gluten containing ingredients. So you don't have to do the research if you don't want to, here's the brands I used for this tartare sauce:

La Doria Sliced Sandwich Gherkins In Sweet Vinegar
Fragata Capers - Capotes
Hellman's Mayonnaise

I can't believe that I've only just discovered the joy of capers, for some reason I always assumed that I wouldn't like them, oh how I'm making up for lost time! I also tried Caper Berries which I enjoyed but they don't have quite the same intense flavour. I had a weekend breakfast of capers, Port Salut cheese and diced Pink Lady apple and you know what? It was one of the best breakfasts I have ever had!

Here's to new discoveries!
