Gluten Free KFC Style Chicken Gravy For Dipping

Thick Chicken Gravy For Dipping
If I were to be making a 'proper' gravy I'd go old school and use bones for the base, but as this is a take on a fast food favourite to accompany my Southern Fried Chicken, it's just a really quick and simple recipe that uses chicken stock granules.

You can't see how thick this gravy is in the photo but it's just the right consistency to coat the chicken and chips with when dipping. I always ordered gravy when I used to eat KFC, though there's not many similarities between this chicken gravy and theirs I just wanted a KFC style eating experience again and I got it!

Ingredients:

Gluten Free Chicken Stock (around 400ml for 2 people)
2 tablespoons Mirin
Corn Starch
2 tablespoons cold Water
Pinch of Salt

Directions:

  • Mix the chicken stock and put in a pan on a high heat
  • Add the mirin and salt and bring to the boil
  • Once boiling, mix the corn starch and water in a dish until smooth and add to the pan
  • Stir constantly until the gravy starts to thicken
  • When you have your desired thickness, remove the pan from the heat and put the gravy into a serving  container
That's it. It's quick, it's easy and it is the perfect partner for my take on gluten free KFC style chicken. This is a dipping gravy and not one that I would use to accompany a roast, but I suppose it could work if you replaced the mirin with a dry white wine.

I'm really, really pleased with my take on gluten free KFC, of course it isn't exact but it's a very good alternative and one that is going down a treat in this home! I can honestly say that I don't miss KFC anymore, how cool is that?!

A Marvellous Monday To All.
