Cheese And Onion Triangles

Cheese And Onion Goodness
In an effort to not replicate my original Cheese Straws I've been really inventive in thinking up alternate shapes and sizes for my various Cheese Bites. As you can see I've gone wild making some Triangles and previously I even went as far as Twists! You may have seen them. My visual creativity knows no bounds.

Have to say, these are really, really lovely. A perfect balance between the cheese and onion with a soft and light texture that almost melts in the mouth. Very moreish.

Chilli Cheese Twists

Cheesy, Hot And Moreish
I had a burst of baking inspiration yesterday, not something that happens often as you will know if you're a regular reader, I'm not big on baking. I didn't want to replicate my original Cheese Straws recipe, but that's the kind of thing that I wanted to make, this was one of the new creations that turned out good enough to share.

Gluten Free Pilau Rice

Pilau Rice
I had always loved rice of any kind but about a month or so ago I totally went off of it, I'm not sure why. I started to avoid making meals that required it as a side dish or just stopped serving it with the those meals, that's how Hasselback Chilli took form.

In search of new recipes for Free From G I decided to make something Indian, a cuisine that I love but have never really experimented with. I made Tandoori Chicken with Pilau Rice, a first on both counts for me. No longer am I anti rice and it's all down to a new way of cooking it.

Gluten Free Nakd Bars

Wow So Delicious
Oh my. I've been a fan of Naked since I discovered them a few years back and though I've written a post about their Infused Raisins I've never written a dedicated one about their gluten (and wheat and dairy) free bars. Today's the day.

Premier Foods Gluten Free Information

In a constant effort to try and get as much gluten free information from big brands, today I contacted Premier Foods as there is no GF information on their website, or any of their umbrella brand websites. You may not have heard of Premier Foods but you're sure to know at least some of the brands that they own.

Because It's Bacon Week 18th - 24th March

A Just Made Free From G Bacon Bomb
I once worked with a girl who was a very vocal Vegetarian, except she would often be found with a Bacon Roll at lunchtimes. Confused, I once asked "Did you get fed up not eating meat?" to which she replied "Meat? It's a Bacon Roll", I must have had a very puzzled look on my face as she then told me "Bacon isn't meat, it's Bacon".

Okaaaaay. I guess she had a point.

To celebrate the wonder that is Bacon I thought it would be good to put together all the Free From G recipes that use it, there's been some fun experiments.

Gluten Free Lemon King Prawns

Battered King Prawns
This recipe came about due to a deceptive Chicken Breast that thawed into a fraction of the size I thought it was when I got it out of the freezer to make Lemon Chicken. Too late in the day to thaw another one I figured that King Prawns would be a good addition to bulk up the meal, so I just marinated and battered them the same way as I did the Chicken. Lemon King Prawns created.

Heinz Worldwide Gluten Free Product List

This list contains Heinz products that are made without gluten containing ingredients. It's a useful guide but you should always check labels before you buy in case of any changes made to recipes.

I've taken the original list and made it much easier to read for country specific products though some are available Worldwide.

It's a long one so here goes:

Snack On Soy Beans

In the days of eating out without worry, when I would have Sushi I would usually have an order of Edamame with it. Since going gluten free I haven't eaten Sushi but Edamame was still devoured on occasion that we visited Waitrose.

We haven't shopped at Waitrose in a very long time because they ceased stocking the gluten free Oyster Sauce which was the reason for shopping with them (Blue Elephant), so Edamame has been off the snacking menu for quite a while.

Black Garlic Butter Chicken Kiev

What Lurks Within?
Since the discovery of Black Garlic I've been focusing on new recipes to use it in. A new Kiev creation was an obvious starting point as I am rather fond of faffing about making different versions and it seemed like a I had thought up flavour combination that could wow. It sure did.

It was incredibly tough to photograph the reveal. The part where the kiev is cut open and the buttery filling starts to spill out and create a pool of juicy richness that begs to be mopped up by whatever eats are on the plate. The reveal is further down, you'll either go ewwwww or, wow, I bet that tastes amazing. The black filling just didn't photograph that well but that should bear no reflection on just how good this Kiev is.

Gluten Free French Toast - Eggy Bread Free From G Style

gluten free eggy bread
Eggy Bread Sandwich
Sunday brunch is usually a calorie laden affair, we'll often have Pancakes with Bacon, a bit of Maple Syrup and Clotted Cream on the side (indulgent), or Yoki Bread filled with Mozzarella and Ham (tame), sometimes a Cheesy Omelette (boring).  I fancied making something new this week, something a bit special. In keeping with a calorific comfort theme I decided to do a Free From G take on an old favourite; French Toast.

Tandoori Chicken

Indian Revisited
It had been a really long time since I cooked anything Indian, I'm still pretty much a novice when it comes to this cuisine, I've eaten a lot of it in the past but it's not something that I've experimented with much in the kitchen.

I figured that I could nail Tandoori Chicken, start off with something easy then get the confidence with the spices and experiment further. Really pleased with the result, great blend of flavours which was all thanks to taste bud memory from my pre-gluten free days.

Results Of Gluten Free Kitchen Capers
If you have any interest in my gluten free kitchen antics and own or have access to a Kindle, you now have the wondrous ability to read my posts on the perfectly formed, take anywhere, can't live without Ereader.

How cool is that? I've not been this excited since I flew on a broom somewhere near Watford.

Hasselback Chilli

Dinner
I didn't intend to document this but it looked so quirky when it was served that I wanted a couple of photos to share. I'm sick of long grain rice and didn't fancy going with Potato Wedges, I love the look of Hasselback Potatoes and they're so easy to make, so I thought why not. I'd have presented it somewhat better had I thought about it though.

Black Garlic

New Discovery
I'd consider myself quite clued up when it comes to food so when I discover something entirely new it's always a bit exciting, I love new discoveries.

This brilliant find was purely accidental, you know how you get those plastic strips hanging on supermarket shelves (usually quite random products in unlikely places, (I'm sure I've seen Haribo down the toilet roll aisle) though I'm sure there's some sales layout wizardry going on, we did after all buy this)? Well, a selection of these were hanging either by the free from section or down a world food aisle, I was too dazzled by the discovery to recall exactly.
